The Learning Family

Families need to learn how to create together.

My work with families focuses on overcoming barriers to communication and building better relationships.

When family members can show up as open and willing to learn from each other instead of blaming one another for their challenges, that is when true transformation happens and creating something awsome together becomes possible.

I believe families can build wealth - not just FOR the next generation, but WITH and IN the next generation.

I've put together a collection of resources, inspiration, and information to help us learn new ways of relating to one another within our families. My intention is to help families build more Family Capital - Family Well-th. The rest will take care of itself!

Families Grow People.

It's a mindset - the integration of well-being and prosperity.  A focus on building family capital.

It's a practice - family meetings provide an opportunity to come together and develop an intentional family culture that supports each individual and the family in their collective journey toward true wealth.

What is Family Well-th?

Shifting from Blaming to Learning

Creating a Shared Vision

How do we want to be together as a family moving forward? We can't alter the past, but we can draw a line in the sand and move forward in a new way together.  Identifying and voicing our aspirations - who we want to be in the world can energize a family and create a new sense of unity - respecting the different paths of individuals and yet honoring what the family needs to thrive as a group.

Establish Regular Family Meetings

Family meetings carve out a space and time for ongoing communication. This is an opportunity for a family to come together and slow down.  Done well, they provide a safe space to listen to each other's voices and not just solve problems, but to "grow as a family" and learn to trust one another in the process.

Learn From the Past

Knowing our family history and reflecting on how family dynamics have played out in the past, families can honor what they want to carry forward and identify patterns that they want to change. Not from a place of reproach, but from a place of humility and progress.  Letting the past be a learning moment and then launching into the future you really want!

Learn Relationship Skills

Skills like learning to appreciate what's unique about each other, see the best in one another, hold safe space for meaningful conversations, show empathy, and come to conversations with flexibility and an open heart. When it's hardest we must look into the mirror and ask, how am I contributing to the problem? What part of this belongs to me? Who am I being in this moment? How can I turn this challenge into a gift and opportunity?
